I should just stop buying these things!
last modified: Wednesday, April 16, 2008 (1:10:45 PM CST)
A murderous experience scanning big pan cels! Why don't I ever remember what a bitch it is to assemble these when I buy them? Anyway, I added 3 new Yat pan cels to follow my Yat update from yesterday.

and my absolute favorite:

I also finally scanned Takuma as a Vampire from Tonde Buurin.

I know the rose thing is a re-occurring theme in anime. Anyone remember any besides Sailor Moon, Haunted Junction, and Pokemon? I know I have seen more...

Outrageous Pan Cels
last modified: Sunday, February 10, 2008 (8:18:19 AM CST)
After working for many days in my spare time, I finally completed work on my 3 big Cyber Team in Akihabara Hatoko Pan Cels. Hatoko is the epitome of Idol Singer chic! Please check out my efforts. Also on the top of the page for the CTA Friends and Enemies section is a Youtube clip which shows how the pan cels appeared in the show.

BTW, the gallery has been decorated for the last few weeks in full Valentine splendor. Featured on the main page are a few of our favorite "couple" cels along with a cel of the Daichis from Earth Defense Family under a "Love Attack".

Update on the Updating and other stuff...
last modified: Saturday, January 05, 2008 (9:10:11 AM CST)
Well, finally some of the vast pile of cels that were purchased quite a while ago have been posted. There's still more to go, especially several tricky-to-scan pan cels, but progress has definitely been made. Due to all the time and money that our new/old house is demanding, I have had less time and $$ than before to sink into cels and the gallery, so most updates are for less popular series like Cyber Team in Akihabara, Tonde Buurin, and Bomberman. Still, I think that many of the cels that have been added are still quite charming and most have original backgrounds. Anyway, thanks to all of you who have been looking for checking out our gallery this year. A little while back we passed 40,000 hits and I know I couldn't be responsible for all of them. Thanks again to those that helped answer the "what are those little piggies saying?" posts. Information from you has been added to both cels. Happy New Year to you all!

Hip deep in rubble and cels
last modified: Sunday, August 12, 2007 (1:19:14 PM CST)
A MASSIVE pile of Tonde Buurin and Cyber Team in Akihabara cels (with a few gems from other collections) arrived recently just as half of the interior of my new home-to-be has been demolished to enlarge a bathroom and remove questionable homosote and paneling from walls, and most importantly repair old termite damage. The pile of rubble sadly towers over the height of my cel pile even if the cels equal almost 100 items. (I plan to post about 2/3rds of them). I couldn't help posting a few today, though. Once again, if anyone can read the bellies of little piggies on this cel:

I would greatly appreciate it. I might post some demolition photos if I can stand it once I retrieve the camera from the other house where I left it yesterday.

Proof of my insanity...
last modified: Sunday, July 22, 2007 (7:52:02 AM CST)
I just paid a crazy price for a TONDE BUURIN CEL! My wish list has included my desire to find a cel of the 3 little pigs that show up and make jokes during Tonde Buurin. It has been there a long time and is one of the few things I have listed as "will give a kidney". It is also the only one for which I have a picture included.

Well, I guess my kidney is worth about 8250 yen, because I won the perfect cel this morning!

I have NEVER paid so much for a TB cel. ($5-10 is more likely even for the eyecatch). Even so, I am thrilled! If anyone can read the pig's bellies, please let me know what they say.

I have a future massive TB update coming at the end of the summer as I have about 20 some cels coming including many with backgrounds. ( More proof of my insanity!)

Where have all the Daichis gone?
last modified: Friday, June 08, 2007 (2:30:22 PM CST)
I just finished watching The Daichis Earth Defense Family which was one crazy ride. The animation quality is really high, and the characters are very distinctive. There sure aren't a lot of cels out there, though. I know a few other collectors that would dearly love to find some more Daichi art too. Does anybody know if most of the artwork from the series was disposed of?

Anyway, I have been lucky in winning a few auctions of cels from the series on YJ, and I posted 6 cels today and hope to add 4 more next month.

I also bought 2 wonderful items from other series from Wendy and her friend Gabe, and so far I have my new cel of Grove from VHD up. The other cel (from Pokemon) is a gift for my daughter who just finished her school year today. I'll have it added soon.

An update and an announcement
last modified: Thursday, May 31, 2007 (11:26:41 AM CST)
I have been increasingly scarce of late and I thought I'd let anyone that cared know where I went to. I am about to move to a new home. After the death of Gandhi's mom last year, we had a choice between living where we have been for the last 10 years or taking over her house in Delaware. At this point, we are almost finished the process for securing a loan to fix the very run-down house in Delaware. Since it has been long neglected, I will be pouring most of my spare time and energy working on the house which dates from 1851. It needs LOTS of work!

Anyway, as a result, I won't have time and I'll have much less money to put towards cels and sketches. I won't disappear completely, but I won't be able to show up much here or on Beta for months to come. I have some cels entered today, and more that need to be added. I am also expecting a small number of YJ items and 2 new cels from Wendy.

If I get a chance, I'll post pictures of the work I'm doing on the house in my photo album, especially the enclosed garden. I have been mostly concentrating on that for now as we wait for the last minor hitch in our loan application to get straightened out.

Anyway, wish me luck! We need to make this house reasonably whole before school starts for my daughter in the Fall.

Opening Cels!
last modified: Thursday, April 19, 2007 (11:53:25 AM CST)
Back when we first started collecting, we would look enviously at opening cels/sketches in other people's collections and wonder if we would ever have one in our gallery. Today I just posted our 58th opening cel!

along with this cute cel:

Both are from Photon the Idiot Adventures

We also have 3 ending cels, all from Pretty Sammy, and amazingly an actual eyecatch cel from Tonde Buurin!

None of these opening cels cost a great deal. In a collection where the most expensive cel is $250, none get close to that. Many of these cels however, are really beautiful and quite a few are some of our absolute favorite cels.

So if you are observant and aren't limiting yourself to a few very-popular series, you really can find some excellent OP cels for your collection too, and you don't have to take out a loan to do it. Really!

Here's a list of all our series with OP cels/sketches if you are curious about where in our collection they might be hiding: Bow Wow (1), Clamp Campus Detectives (1), Cyber Team in Akihabara (14), Photon the Idiot Adventures (4),Pretty Sammy (10), Platinumhugen Ordian (3), Saiyuki Reload & Gunlock (3), Saint Tail (1), Tenchi Mihoshi Special (1), and especially Tenshi ni Narumon (20!).
